cat prefers one over the other

my girl venus.....is an odd kitty. she's great. she's beautiful and so super smart. my thing is she seems to prefer dh to me. in fact....she flat out tortures me. she's only nice if she wants something. i.e. treats or a scratch behind the ears. i'm the one who feeds her, cleans her potty box, makes sure she has water, gives her treats and what not. he is the one who punishes her when she's bad (smacks her when she's on the counter or yells at her if she's scratching at the furniture) and she is so incredibly loving to him. she rubs on him, sits on his lap and follows him like a puppy. she actually sits outside the bathroom door waiting for him and then snuggles with him in bed. if I try to snuggle with him....she bites me. when i go to check on the boys in the middle of the night she hides in their bathroom (it's pitch black in there) and lounges at me from the darkness and attacks my leg then takes off down the stairs like a bat out of h3ll.

does anyone elses cat prefer one person to another? or just flat out torture them on a daily basis?

well i found out what my diva ate. greg bought me a bouquet of blue daisys (they were dyed blue) and venus ate a few of the stems. i caught her eating it this morning. she got swatted for it...but of course she didn't care. she bit me then when tearing through the house like usual. so she must be feeling better. she's been up to her ornery self today. right now she's sunning herself in front of our sliding glass door. i was scrubbing the kitchen floor today and when i was sweeping it.....no she wouldn't let me. she laid down and stretched herself out so i couldn't sweep my floor. so..i just pushed her along with my swiffer sweeper. she didn't seem to mind. she is a good dust catcher.....

at night we always here her downstairs doing "bad" stuff. and she knows when she does something bad and she's in trouble. that's actually how we know when she's done something she wasn't supposed to...she hides. she'll sit in the corner and hide. then just look at us. that's when i KNOW she did something. not sure what but it was something. then i have to go all through the house seeing what is missing, broken or out of place. she's been kind of calm today. she ate something she wasn't supposed to. she threw up this morning and it kind of looked like the flowers that the hubby bought me.....so i know she was on the ledge again (we have a "window" that looks from the kitchen to the living room (GREAT if you have kids...the best) and she KNOWS she's not allowed on it (i have valuable, priceless things i set up there....a tea set my aunt bought me as a wedding gift and a pitcher and wash bassin my great great grammy made that was left to me from my grandma and the wiker angle that my mom and i bought for my grammy's funeral) so she has been sleeping in bed and attacking me only when i go upstairs. so she's still being bad...just not as bad. i'm sure she'll get me when i go up in a little bit to go to sleep because she's on MY side of the bed. she won't sleep on greg's side...just mine. on my pillow under the blankets.

HAHAHA-  Your description of the 20 cats on the stairs and hearing her hit certain objects is just like mine.  It's funny because you can tell which cat is going down the stairs by the way it sounds.  When they are having a cat fit and thunking their way down the stairs you hear the hit at the bottom and know they missed at least the last one if not 2 or 3.

There is nothing better than hearing the boys can "baby love" on her and she doesn't hurt them.  She just takes it out on you instead : )

I'd try another kitty about her age with her, but make sure the new one would be okay with the boys.

LOL....So, the baby can yank on her fur, tail and ears and she just lays there, but you try to give her some love and she attacks.  This may have already been suggested, but possibly she prefers males to females?

We had a female cat in the 80's who loved my husband, but ignored me.  Our last female who passed preferred my husband as well.  Our current female is about in the middle with us, but started loving on my husband way before she would ever touch me.

Keep the posts coming : )

well the spaz that is venus isn't even a year yet. she will be next month and yeah she's fixed. we figured she'd calm down (she's always been a hyper kitty but not psychotic) but no...she got worse. so maybe she is punishing me for bringing in little humans and for fixing her. she disappeared again today. i thought she was stalking me. no....she hogging my side of the bed next to dh. i walk into the room this morning to grab socks and she meows at me like i'm disturbing her. i went over to give her a scratch and she grabs my arm and starts bunny kicking me while biting my thumb. jumps off the bed and i can hear her run down the stairs (she sounds like 20 cats running down the stairs) i know she fell down the last 2 because i heard a loud thump at the end. then i hear her take off through the living room and head to the kitchen because i heard her hit into the cupboard. and the  boys are very mobile. especially brett. he can only crawl but he chases venus. and he catches her. i don't know if she doesn't realize she can run away or is too dumb but she just lays there while he yanks on her fur, tail and ears. i've found clumps of grey fur everywhere. including in his little fist. and usually after that i find her under the coffee table tail swishing and starring at me like I did it. normally about 10 minutes later she "punishes" me by doing a random attack when i'm busy with something else....like cooking dinner or making a bottle. she always waits till my hands are full or i'm half asleep to do these attacks. she knows i won't be able to snatch her furry but up. then when my hands are free....she either hides or jumps into dh's lap so i can't get her.

she's so conieving and manipulative!

Now my husband is laughing!  I simply had to share with him your take on the antics of Miss Venus.

Seriously, I do hope you get her behaviour figured out.

Hahaha......but you must continue to update us just because you describe this in such an amusing way : )

Hiya,  It's not funny, but I'm laughing so hard at work that my co-workers think I'm nuts.

Couple of questions... How old is Venus and has she been fixed?  If she's still under 2 or so, she is still very kittenish and playful.  It might be worth a try to get another kitty for company.

Oh- another thought- she may be punishing you for the boys.  Since you had her before they were born, she may be feeling left out or upset because of them.  Unfortunately, this is something that will have to be dealt with before the boys become more mobile or grabby.  Spazzy kitties with moving and grabbing toddlers are not very good mixes.

i've tried biting her. that doesn't work. makes her worse. in fact i bit her last night....she bit me back. hard. and when she slunk off last night during the hockey game.....yeah she was lying in wait for me. she was in the boys bathroom. waiting for me to go check on them. when i did.....the only warning i got was "ROWR!!!!!" and 2 glowing yellow eyes. she got a good lounge on that one so she attached herself to my shoulder...bit my ear and jumped off of me and went running into mine and dh's bedroom and under the bed. i went to look at her...she was laying under it with her tail swishing. she's a nut.

I saw a sign that said, "Cats don't have owners, they have staff (servants)".  Cats are smart.  It sounds like she's playing you against your husband.

One of our cats used to jump off the top of the cupboards and land on my head, where he proceeded to dig his claws in.  The vet said it was a sign of affection.  Some affection.  He did it once to often to I grabbed him off my head, along with a piece of my scalp and bit him on the scruff of the neck.  He has never bitten me since and has actually become a very lovable cat.  I'm not advocating doing that but I noticed when he was a kitten, his mother would bite his scruff when he got too obnoxious.  Maybe your cat is looking for a "mother" figure.

Loved your comment that you are "just a big mouse to her"  lol  It's so true  = )

Hahahaha......oh my, but I've enjoyed your posts.  Too funny.

She "slinks" off when you're not looking then jumps out of nowhere....hahaha

I know this isn't so funny for YOU when she attacks, but the way you're describing is just cracking me up!

we have been considering another cat. she got along GREAT with my moms dogs (i was pregnant and staying with my mom when i got her) but when she met the cats....not so nice.

i know she's up to something right now. she's gone mia the past 20 minutes.....so she's stalking me somewhere. i'm not sure where but every now and then i hear the tinkle tinkle of her bell on her collar. so she's up to something. i'm sure i'll be finding out soon. lol she probably does view me as her play toy. i'm just a huge mouse to her. *sigh* i do have to say that cats are definately more entertaining then dogs.

She sounds like she's just this major diva!!!!  LMAO  She really really does!

I just had a thought pop into my head after reading your post!  It sounds like she might need a buddy to play with!  Maybe she's been attacking you because she's bored!  She has so much energy that she's looking for ways to burn it off.  Also, maybe she's bored with her toys and she considers YOU to be one of her toys.  LOL, yes I know that probably sounds nuts, but this is what I think could be going on with her!  Have you thought about getting her a buddy to play with?

oh she does that side ways bunny hop ALL the time!!! then she just takes off running through the house like a little bat out of hell. i've actually heard her run into walls and doors. she's a nut. i'm still ignoring her but it's so hard. and it's not me...it's her! she just won't stop attacking me! it's like i'm a mouse to her that she has to destroy. and she's good. like REALLY good. she'll slink off and i won't notice so when i go to the bathroom or the kitchen i get it. she jumps out of absolutely no where (she actually attacked me out of her litter box earlier...scared the sh!t out of me....i almost peed myself!) and just attacks me.

HA HA HA  LMAO!!  TOOOO dam funny!  I know exactly what you're talking about-the sideways bunny hop with the fat tail curved over!!  That is my favorite thing that kitties do!!

Try ignoring her for about a week!  See how it goes!  =D

lol she won't leave me be now. she did get a good swat this morning when she got on the counter. i told her 3 times to get down and she wouldn't so she got swatted. so she's been attacking me randomly all day. and not just the little bites noooooo i'm talking full on nails and teeth. i wonder if she's possessed.

hey heather, we have 3 cats and they kinda do the same. Jester is our favourite, but part Siamese and acts like one. She prefers me over Hubby. He'll be petting her, everything going great as she rolls on her back for her belly to be rubbed, and then... WHAM!! She attacks him, sometimes going after his glasses. If she bites her back she turns into Mr. Hyde... but with me, she lets me bite her back and be the alpha-cat. Gracie is our mini tubby Tabby and she prefers Hubby, my brother, Hubby's friend, basically any male. Princess is the mom, Jester's mom to be precise, and she's mostly been the "just there" cat. Her previous owner's ex-husband abused her and she's older so I think she's still getting over things, but I've noticed she comes to me more than him.

Cats are weird like that. They have their own personalities and ways of doing things. That's why I like cats more than dogs now, LOL... always a laugh  :)

i think i just ended up with they psycho of the litter. i tried ignoring her yesterday and this morning so far. no....there is NO ignoring her! the more i ignored her the more she tormented me. biting me, lounging at me and doing this sideways bunny hop while her back is hunched and tail is completely puffed out and head down. she runs through the house even more now and is starting to carry my socks around. i think she is a dog trapped in a cats body.....

I've read your other posts, and I think your cat is just being a silly goof ball!!  LMAO  I think she's doin' some play attacking!

I also think that ALL cats have different personalities, like we do, and some really do prefer coming to you rather than you going to them.  Know what I mean?

Please give me an update to let me know how our ignoring scheme goes!  LOL

lol cats are just weird in general. even though all the others i've had or my mom has had have always wanted to be with me rather than anyone else and i was the same with them like i am with venus. i'll have to try ignoring her. even though when she just randomly attacks me (like she did last night when i was laying in bed or this morning when i got up) it's hard to. it's like she WANTS to p!ss me off and sees how far she can go before i just go crazy.

I've noticed a very weird pattern!  Cats will gravitate to the person that ignores them the most.  My mom's got 7 cats, my dad ignores them and they are ALLLL up his @ss!  Go figure!  I think cats prefer to approach someone, rather than us approach them.

Try ignoring her for a few days, and see if it makes a difference.  If it don't work, then ya got a weirdo on your hands!  LOL
