itchy cats

Hi
I have two cats. One of them: shake its head, lose fur around head and neck (but especially ears), ear is covered by greyish "spots", she is very itchy, sometimes appear redness.
The other one: just hair lose, itchy skin, shake head.

Both of them had/have darkish discharge but after swab test( yeast infection was detected) we got ear drops and after them it was clear. Now discharge has come back
We got as well advocate (3rd pipette was applied and nothing has changed). Before this we fed them (two months) veterinary diet and it was not any better.

Where I can make skin tests in Edinburgh? My vet don't want to do them.

Please help us
Thanks in advance Teresa

Hi there...I am sorry to hear about your kitties' issues...skin problems can be SO frustrating!!

Seeing as this condition is happening in both cats, I would wonder more about an environmental problem (like fleas or ear mites) than allergies.   Is the veterinary diet you mentioned a hypoallergenic diet?  Are these cats related?

You might jump over to the Ask the Expert forums and find the Skin Problems in pets forum.   We have a veterinary dermatologist there who can help with these type of issues.   I have also tried to contact a veterinarian in Ireland who is part of our Veterinary News Network to see if he might have some potential ideas to help you find some help.

Good luck!

HMMMM, I've never seen hair loss w/ gray spots on the ears and a dark discharge.  I've had lots of cats over the years and the only ear problem that I've seen is ear mites, but that's on the inside.  It looks like black, sticky gunk in the ears.  What do the inside of the ears look like?  Does this sound familiar?

BTW, I have also seen hair loss on the ears, but it was nothing major.  Fleas caused that!

Please share with us a few more details!!  I hope that someone else responds that have seen something like this!  The details will help us a whole bunch!
