update again

Hi all, I got back to my ns who performed surgery. And now the stunning result. I will get cortisone shots on Monday.I have severe contractions in my neck and back...so severe that they are most probably causing my daily ha!!! and compressing my left main arteria on movement and thats why i get so dizzy. Its the thing the chiari specialist was suspecting too...I am anyways so happy to be treated by my ns. Man is he kind...I dont find words for it!!! I even had to give him a lil hug in the end. He would do anything to get away my pain and he says I want u to be alright and live ur life...in the end we met again at the elevator as I was his last appointment...he let me and my friend enter first...he is not at all arrogant and so respectful... I am looking forward to maybe painfree or have less pain!!! I keep u on track

thanxxx for all ur comments...u r great!!! and neck stiffness plus chiari is a real pain in the A**. I actually have a frozen shoulder no joke.
@viva...I had a´lil laugh about the botox. sooo cute.In europe botox is not as commonly used as in the US...they still use older treatments. U r very advanced in medicine!!! Now here in Barcelona I heared they are introducing the nerve stimulator chips and u already have them for a while I think...but anyhow I am also a bit afraid of botox as it is really toxic and I dont want to end up paralyzed in my arm or sth :-))
aw and housework...it just flares up my symptoms...

That's great news!  I'm so glad you found out the problem and have a solution.

When I had the laminectomy, I was off the pain meds much sooner than this surgery, but it took years to get range of motion back.  And of course, it's always house work that kills.

My NS warned me about tensing up; he said he'd had a patient who tensed herself into a frozen shoulder.

I'm curious, why cortisone & not Botox?

Reaanne was mentioning physio therapy to strengthen those muscles, as I have weakness between my shoulderblades too.  All this Chiari stuff started to surface when I was in a stage of being inactive and letting myself go.  Linnielou, you mentioned that your doctor thought, as we age, our bones become weaker (or the muscles around them) and maybe this can contribute to the downward spiral.  I'm beginning to think that some physio could help a lot of us!

mmmh...u know I am a really tensed person I think. and lately because of mental stress I think it even got worse, its a vicious circle.u are tensed get pain and u tense up more.I always had problems with this.and after decompression I was scared to move my neck and hold it very stiff which might have contributed.I hope this is now the way to feel some better.
P.S, I wrote a mail to the hospital saying how great this ns is of treating people. People are easy complaining, but hardly say thanks...and as I told u all...for me the way a person treats u is very important :-))

ok...we have the same issue maybe.well after a lot of tests 2 different surgeons actually proceeded the same kind of tests. they pulled my neck and my arm into different directions...and both said it is definetly a mechanical issue causing my pain. my neck is almost swollen u can say and hard like a stone!!! as I am a nervous person I tend to cramp myself a lot and in fear of having pain even more...I have contractions that no longer can be treated with muscle relaxants...it has almost no effect...anyhow if I press on the hard neck part....my symptms and ha increase easily.
if u r in doubt go to a professional physiotherapist.they can figure out easily thos issues...btw how far post op are u??? i never thought it takes a lifetime to get back a normal neck...I am still not close to
