How many surgeries on PFD would you think makes a specialist? TCI said only 3600 PFD are performed throughout the entire US a year. I thought if Dr. Jho has done a few a month...36 is a pretty profound amount for 1 surgeon. That would be 1% of them all.
Also I thought many Chiari specialists work on more than just Chiari don't they. It seems all of them - Dr. Oro, Dr. Ellenbogen have a few other clinical interests mentioned on there resume. I know TCI, WCC only work on Chiari but in your opinion are only the ones who work solely on Chiari truly specialists?
Thanks
Posted this and wanted your input...What does this mean? I even had my Doc call the radiologist and he said he didn't think there was much abnormal on my posterior flow that is why he said "questionable"...Any input??? Thanks so much!
Just had another CINE MRI done Wednesday of this week and it reads. 'csf flow to the foreman magnum is normal anteriorly and questionable mild attenuated posteriorly.'
My tonsillar herniation is still at 3mm. Been at that for 12 years but I am I am unsure what to make of the csf flow study???
For me personally...no...I would not, that is a NS that does quite a few of PFD's but it does not make him a specialist...but, he may be very good.
In my mind a chiari specialist does nothing but chiari and chiari related surgeries on a daily basis so they may do 3 to 4 a day not a month.
U have to talk to the Dr get a few other opinions and go with ur gut....no one can pick ur Dr for u.
I went to a few NS that did a few PFD's a month and one said I did not have it, the other said I did, but it was above him and he could not help me or suggest my next step......too many times chiari can throw a curve ball and with out the right experience even those with the right intentions can be at a loss.
I would say if u r not sure, get another opinion until u know u have the right Dr.

Sorry I meant to say he's been doing PFD for 20 years and does 3-4 month...

Question for you...I contacted Dr. jho's office and they said he's been doing posterior fossa decompression and does a handful a month (she said 3-4). If that's true I figured that is around 500-700 in his career. Do you think that would suffice for a specialist. I will get a chance to talk to him personally and I guess he's as likable as the famous Dr. Di but his office seemed very familiar with Chiari even by terminology. what are you thoughts? Any good questions to ask? They did want an MRI and a list of symptoms as his admin was adamant that he doesn't operate based off test findings but rather symptoms as he treats people not tests LOL. I think us Chiarians appreciate this kind of Doctor...
I really admire your knowledge and experience with Chiari - any advice I would certainly appreciate.
PS - I guess he was surgeon of the year for Pennsylvania last 2 years
Thanks

Hi...I have heard this name b4, but have nothing to reference it to or to neone.Plus he does list it as something he does, but he has a large list...it is not a primary focus of his practice, so I would not know what to say regarding him.
Keep in mind it is not how many he has done, but how many he is doing.
Further research on him is deff needed.
