Back of head sounds

My only symptoms are headaches and pressured ears, with poping in my ears everytime I open my mouth.

I can be doing anything and out of no where I hear sudden ringing that lasts for seconds and goes away.

recently I've started to hear what I describe as a water creaking through a pipe sound at the back of my head everytime I lay down, the problem is that it's happening more often, and it's very noticeable to me like an everyday thing,

should I be concerned or anything, I am really worried about it, haven't had surgery or anything since I have very minimal to nearly not herniation, the tonsills are just at the base of the foramen magnum

oh and the mri that I took was lying on my back, does the tonsils move further down if I stand up ?

And should I be concerned about the creaking sound or thats normal ?

I have no syrinx thankfully

Thanks!

Hi....I know you said no syrinx but did you have a MRI of the brain, cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine? And a CINE MRI? Size of herniation does not mean you do not need surgery....but whether or not you have an obstruction to CSF flow.....and other related conditions/issues.....
Chiari is a congenital condition for most of us, some have acquired it thru an injury....if yours is congenital, you may not be aware of ALL the symptoms you have since you may consider how you feel to be "normal"....I know I over looked many of my symptoms until I developed a few that I could not ignore....and it was then I was DX'd with Chiari...and even then I did not connect the dots with ALL the symptoms and issues I had for years.....

As for the sounds you are hearing...we have had many report hearing bubbles, fluid moving etc....and no one has a definite answer as to what it is for sure....some say it is the CSF while others say it is the nerves....

Make sure when you have new symptoms crop up talk to your Dr...and if your MRI's are more then 6 months old you might want to get new ones done.

Should they be upright...mine weren't and my Dr could tell if they were I would have had a bit more trouble....so you shouldn't need a upright MRI if the Dr is well informed on Chiari and ALL related conditions.
