You really need to see a specialist. Unfortunately many NL are not familiar with CM and all that it entails.
There is a list in our community of some of the dr's others here have used that are specialists in this field. The list is not an endorsement that they are better than any other specialist simply a list of docs that specialize in this field. There may be one that is close to you. If not research the NS in your area or close by to see if there is one that specializes in this area.
We are all here to help support each other and answer questions as to what we've experienced if you have any questions.
There is also a list of symptoms that you can look up to get a better understanding of what we have experienced. Every person is different and not all experience the same symptoms. Look through these and if younhave any questions about symptoms you may be having that you don't see listed there just ask if others here have ever experienced the same or similar symptoms.
I hope this helps you a little.
You have a large herniation. You do need further tests to determine crowding, obstruction of csf flow etc. You should get another opinion from a NS who is very familiar with Chiari. Search the web, do your research! After reading about it, I'm sure you will relax some. It is a serious neurological condition but it is treatable :-) Lisa
do not listen to a guy who has only done 3 surgeries find a specialist lots of tests need to be done b4 you commit to surgery and from what ive read the people who get it done by non specialists seem to be the ones getting the surgery redone in the future not that its not a possibility with even the best surgeon. I had a three part surgery in june but i weighed a lot of options out before deciding to have it done good luck and keep us all posted
