Arnold Charimi

I recently seen an MRI result that stated there was indication for Arnold Charimi...but also stated there was a T1 axial intracranial mass that the gray and white matter junction was normal throughout. It also stated the fourth ventricle was prominent. Could this be related to mastoiditis? Also would this be an indication for a brain tumor that has metastasized? Please help....thank you in advance!!! Just not sure how all of this can be related!

I have no idea what the mass could be....sometimes it can be an artifact...meaning a smudge on the machine so nothing to be concerned about....it could also indicate an increase of CSF the cerebral tonsils...??Each radiologist uses some of their own verbiage so unless u  were aware of how they describe things it is hard to know....most times the NS will review the MRI itself and not rely on the report.....

Grey and white matter is what the brain is composed of.... and the report says it is normal....

May I ask what was behind u getting the MRI?

Hi.
I sense you have a lot going on. We are only patients here so I can offer some guesses bases on my layman research and my experience.

I think perhaps auto-correct got you? Arnold Charimi is perhaps a Chiari malformation? There is actually a forum completely devoted to those.

As for the rest, it is really difficult to comment as there is very little information to go on - the fourth ventricle is near the mastoid process, but mastoiditis is usually an infection, not cancer (from what I know) so I am not sure what would be spreading.

Sometimes it helps to read the entire report - the summary does not give all the details.

Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum.

From what u r describing it can be the Chiari affecting u along with some related conditions like Ehlers-Danlos which can affect the mast cells....since everything is in close proximity sinus, pituitary gland and a few others can also be involved.

I agree with rumpled u need to read the whole report and look at the symptoms u r having to help a Dr understand what is going on....

There are many things that are connected to Chiari that many Drs do not understand, but they are....once ur brain stem and spinal cord are affected that can affect how ur entire body works or doesn't.

I guess my main concern is the intracranial mass! Just wasn't sure what grey and white matter juntion appears normal was about. Could either of you or anyone else answer that??? Is the mass a tumor???

It's actually my cousins MRI and she is having severe headaches and a lot of pain at the base of her skull on the left side. Her crazy family doctor told her that it could be mastoiditis which it is not because she went to the ENT TODAY. I'm so worried about her. She's crying in pain from the headache and she sees the NS on Friday!

  Have they suggested Chiari Malformation?

It is possible to be a disk issue, as well,....there are so many issues/conditions with the same symptoms it can take time to get a DX....

In  the meantime she should keep track of what her activities are and how it makes her feel,...like the next day so she can figure out what to avoid to help lessen how badly she feels....

Do not get ur hopes up too high as there are some NS's that do not understand how Chiari affects us,so if she does have it, she will need to research a Chiari specialist.
