I noticed I dealt with this going through the process of having Chairi. I will hear what people are saying and I am always saying "What". Then I reply to them with something totally different. I never noticed this growing up, but as my Chairi got worse It was very evident that this also increased. It has gotten a little better since my surgery, but it is flustrating. My family and I just joke about it now because who know's how to fix it. I have good hearing day's and bad. Hope you get some answer's I know this is flustrating. Your not alone and we understand.
I have always had this issue. Its like my brain doesnt get it. But i have to piece things together. I hate it. Im always saying what?
Sorry I got to work on not reacting defensively. The irony is if I still had the ability to be tested as auditory processing deficit for learning disability, I probably would have gotten the double time at CSUB that I needed. I took a quiz at the disability center, they gave 1 and a half time but they refused to listen when I told them the teacher ended up giving five more minutes than she wrote and I missed two points out of 10 because I needed one more second to finish it.
Yes I dont know why it is worse I was only offering that as a thought. My son has this dx and it very much mimicks everything that you said. Living with someone that has it is hard to watch and we have to modify a lot the way information is given to him. I wish you the best of luck. I have noticed that since my surgery and before I have difficulty with this also. Bottom line I think that we have many symptoms that look like other issues which makes helping us so hard. Best of luck to you!!
Hey. Thanks for connecting.
HI, I just wanted to connect with you, I am the person from the Keinbocks group that has been emailing with you.
And auditory processing disorder doesn't explain why it's gotten worse lately because I've adjusted since I was a kid.
Yeah. I've been told by csub that I had that but that was 2 years after I was told I didn't have a learning disability because my math and english was below college level. I might have believed it than but I'm hesitant now. My testing at BC didn't show auditory processing it showed multiple learning. I don't think it's learning anymore.
This can also be something called auditory processing disorder which is exactly what you are describing. It is when your brain does not correctly process the auditory information it is getting. You can have this checked by an audiologist. It can be a cause of learning disabilities. it could also be just a chiari thing.
I was told I had learning disabilities since fourth grade. In college the testers had problems pinpointing the disabilities. I only realized it might not be learning disability after all when I found out about the chiari.
Yes, this is the cognitive aspect many of us have with chiari.....some had learning issues in school as a result.
We do not process what we r hearing...our brain is not functioning as it should, and the signals r blocked, hence the CSF obstruction.
When it is all put together more and more issues that we do have make sense.
