CHIARI MALFORMATION

I found out that I have chiari malformation about 2 years ago. I spoke with 2 neurologists and 1 NS. I felt like i was getting pushed into having surgery. Im not sure if my NS is a chiari expert, how do i find that out? I was going to a chiropractor before I went to my 2nd neurologist and NS and I felt some relief but I stop going because I couldnt afford to go every week. I went to my 2nd neurologist and NS and they advised me to stop going to the chiropractor. My question, Is it ok to go to a chiropractor even tho I have not had the surgery yet? I raelly need some help! I dont want to have the surgery if its not going to help me but I need some relief. This condition is affecting my family and my ability to function properly. Can someone please give me some advise. THANK YOU

I just found out that I have this malformation about 3 days ago and was  put on antidepresents to see if it would help with my symptoms... My doctor says she's had a few patients on them for similar symptoms... and condition... She says most of them the symptoms become bearable and can bypass having surgery done... I don't know how severe your symptoms are but you may suggest it if you symptoms are not as severe as some... I was constantly dizzy, nauseated, shaky, and even chronic headaches with migraines with aura... But so far the meds that she put me on have seem to help somewhat... I am hoping it only gets better from here... I know its not much help since It was just discovered... but I do hope maybe it will help you.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There is a list here of drs for u to research....Chiari drs are few...so most of us will need to travel to get to one.

It all depends on how far and where u r willing to travel.Check out chiari specailists thread here on the forum.

Please stay away fro chiropractors they can cause more damage than good....

Once u see a chairi specialist that dr can tell u if u r a surgical candidate or not and if not what u can do to lessen the symptoms u r having.

Please feel free to post more questions...and share ur experiences with us.
