Work....

Although I have not seen the NS yet (in about 2 weeks), has anyone lost their job because of the symptoms?  Has anyone lost your job becasue of the surgery and healing time?  I just started a new job after being laid off for just about a year.  I'm making great money but am still working on a temp basis, should become permanent by end of Feb.  I am making great money and don't want to lose my job but I'm just confused as to what might happen.  If I would, would "disability" be an option?
Thank you!

I too lost my job because of my symptoms. I truly believe that my health became an inconvinience to them. There is a lot involved with my termination and I am sueing them. I see my lawyer on the 11th to go over everything. Luckily I am able to colect unemployment right now. I am actually happy I am not working. Even though I still have "episodes" my daily headaches are not as bad. Less stress helps. Good luck with everything.

I am about to lose my job because I keep having to leave with the headaches....and I've had a lot of respiratory infections in the last year too, and was diagnosed in november 2010 with asthma...I hope that you are able to hold onto yours.  Remember that no job is worth comprimising your health and that you have to take care of yourself in order to have the ability to work.  My thoughts and prayers are with you, and good luck on this roller coaster that is Chiari.

Hi...I have to say yes I lost my job as a result of several surgeries and running out of sick time and FMLA....

In order to be eligible for FMLA u have to work one yr full time which equals 1250 hrs and ur employer must have over a certain # of employees to be held to the stipulations of FMLA.

So u will have to wait till next Feb for surgery if u r a surgical candidate to use FMLA ...otherwise u may need to return to the job b4 u may be ready in order to keep the position.

It also depends on what u do in this job how long u will be able to hang on and how early u would be able to return...we r all diff on how slowly or quickly we heal and no one not even our drs can say u will be ok in said number of weeks.

Disability for chiari is not the easiest to get...it can take up to 2 yrs...and many find u need a lawyer in order to win.

It all depends on how ur drs describes ur condition...and how chiari is affecting u....some r able to return to work, and some that do have had set backs...it is a gamble.

Find out what the NS says first....good luck : )
