A boat ride?

HI all. I have a question for you all. We own a boat and the kids and hubby want to take a boat ride It isn't a long boat ride...just about 4 minutes until we get to the spot where they can swim. My question is if I take and wear my cervical collar....do you guys think it would be a problem?? I took this ride with my family countless times before surgery , as a matter of fact..just weeks before. What is your opinion. The water isn't to choppy and we wouldn't be going far...just sort of a test run....

You guys are so right. I would do this surgery all over again if out in the position, and asked. I love being able to be with my family and have fun. we had to make some adjustments as well, but I am recovering. It is still slow and I still hurt alot having to do so much of the daily things, but it is getting a little easier...especially now that my DH is off every Sat and Sun.
Thank you all for sharing you experiences.

I am so happy for you!! I know your dilemma and just wanted to share that 1 and a half years decompression and 7 mo fusion I have been boating all summer. My family is super active and we have had to come up with ways to continue to experience life as a family but to do it safely with me. Definetly dont push it this year and heal but glad that you can enjoy family time again there is nothing better than that!!

I actually didn't know they would be there when I posted this ...after I found out us wehen we decided to.take  our boat to meet them, and the water was actually quite still...then we just tied off to them...lol....and yes I think I could have something to do with the No pain today :) It was nice being able to get out of the bed before I took medication....lol

U did not mention a houseboat tho....lol...and that is diff then a 4 min ride on a smaller boat....if the water was choppy of course....glad it was not : )
And u had such a large place to hang out in and relax.

I am so glad u went and had such a good time, sounds like it was relaxing for u, and could account for the no pain today : )

HI girls ! Well, I am just seeing this as I just decided to listen to my body.  I was feeling very good yesterday, and since we know how the boat reacts to the way the water was  yesterday....we decided to gove it a go after finding out that good friend of ours was out there with their 4 bedroom houseboat...complete with bathroom living kitchen, and anything else u can imagine, including 2 bathrooms, and a few beds in case I needed to rest. Well, the water was smooth going in, I wore my cervical collar and felt not pain what so ever. SPent the day lounging around with family and friends, watching my kids have a blast going off of the huge slide that is built into the boat. That thing was so stable I never felt a movement. Then on the way in...the water was the same....I wore my collar, my DH found the perfect speed, I even got to drive for a little while as we pulled the kids kneeboarding...it killed me not being able to go kneeboarding...but that was easy to get over considering the ease of the trip. 2 months ago, I would have been in such pain, we would never have been able to spend the out on the water like that. I was afraid that today I would be hurting even though there was no problems or pain yesterday, and a las...I awoke feeling good. I mean I actually feel better than I have in a while. So, thank you ladies for your input...had I seen it before we left I probably would not have gone, and if there would  have been any chop in the lake or river, I definitely would have not gone.  I am so glad that I did...and having that house boat to relax on during the day made it so much easier. It was the heat I was most concerned about. I HAD SO MUCH FUN though,,,,and I am so glad that I am not in terrible pain today...maybe some fresh air and  a little swimming to take the pressure of my body was just what I needed !!!!

I would concur with Iris,,,,hold off as the sooner u try something u could end up with a set back, and 4 mins is not worth it to me....JMHO

Mmmhhhh...i mean if its like 4min away you could try with the collar and if u dont feel good u can return.but honestly for those adventures i would rather wait a month more ;)) i just dont want u have a bad reset with paying afterwards.a boat is just not stable and in case a lil thing happens and it moves heavy it can give a trauma to ur traumatized neck...i just want u safe honey...dont get me wrong ;)) hugs
