Hi, I would not advise lifting weights at this point, u need to do simple neck exercises to keep the muscles form getting tight...I have a chart on my profile page, and do read the comments to see which ones r for this surgery ...not all on the chart are.

The numbness and hand pain can be a few diff things, did ur Drs rule out disk issues and other related conditions b4 u had surgery?

Many with Chiari have EDS which is a connective tissue disorder that can affect the joints, so u can have pain that feels all over at times....

PT can be very helpful, but do make sure u know if u have other issues b4 u go and that the tech knows how to work with someone with chiari.

Have u been back to ur NS for ur post op visits?

After my surgery, I had a very decreased range of motion. I went to PT and worked with a great therapist who was able to teach me correct maneuvers to regain my motion and strength. I also went to PT years after with another unrelated issue. He found I had "tight" nerves in my arms. I had some tingling in my hands and he said my nerves were compressed too. He showed me some exercises for my upper body and they have been fine since. I strongly recommend trying PT because if you injure yourself, you will set yourself back so much more and things can get so much worse! Best of luck!
