Sissy114's Surgery Update

Okay, Sissy114 is going in to have her surgery bright and early on Tuesday (Dec 30th). So, I'm creating this thread to keep everyone informed. As I hear information, I will pass it along.

As I understand, Sissy114 has Chiari 2 and some vertabrae issues, so her operation will be somewhat longer and more involved than mine and Lovemygirls, but she has an excellent Chiari Specialist neurosurgeon (Dr. Carl Hampf) and is expected to come through with flying colors.

I'll be going out to see her as often as I can. She will be in the hospital over the New Years, so I'm sure she will appreciate thoughts, prayers, etc. Hopefully Lovemygirls will also be able to make it up here to visit, but she lives a couple of hours away and is still recovering herself. If anyone else in the Nashville area wants to visit, just let me know and I'll see about getting the contact info to you.

I'm not sure if she will be getting on here today or not (she has a busy day and an early night) but if she does;

Welcome home!  It was so nice to talk to you earlier!  I am so thankful for the friendship we have developed!  You are right- soon we will meet!  You and Shane are just like part of my family now- very dear friends!  Now- you follow the advice you've been giving me for 10 weeks now....rest and take it easy!  If you have any questions just give me a call!

To everyone still waiting on surgery- I wish you the best of luck!  You are all in my thoughts and prayers!  I am 10 weeks post op and I am going back to work next week- I teach 5th grade so keep me in your prayers!

Hi Sissy!!  I am so glad that the surgery went so well!  Welcome home.  It's nice to hear someone say that it;s okay to have the surgery, the reassurance is so nice!  Get some rest and keep us posted when you feel up to it.  Happy New Year.

I am home and feeling pretty good, don't feel like I just had brain surgery. I not going to be on here long, just long enough to Thank everyone for thinking and praying for me. I want to especially Thank Shane and Lovemygirls for all their encouragement,as I would
prabably not had the nerve to proceed with this and for also helping me find Dr. Hampf,
who is awesome. I have not had any arm, shoulder or neck pain and I believe that if it
does come back that it will be temporary now that the fluid can flow freely. I also want to stress to anyone who is pain with Chiari, DO NOT PUT IT OFF if you can find a exppert.
I know that this is early for me to be talking this way, but I feel like I am going to finally
have a life without pain. Please continue to keep me in your prayers and thoughts during
my recovery. Also to Redkim, I will be praying that everything goes well and keep us posted.

I really appreciate you and Beth for comming by, it was great to meet you both, you are part of my family now and we will all get together soon. Maybe when Lovemygirls can
make to Nashville for one of my post-op appts. We'll do lunch.

I just talked to Sissy. She's on her way home. She says other than a bit of a headache, she feels great.

She's going to rest when she gets home and we'll hopefully get online tomorrow.

We just went out to see Sissy. She's doing wonderfully!

She's been walking the halls of the hospital and she was sitting up in bed when we got there and had even put on make-up. She's able to take showers already and says she's only at a level 2 of pain even though she's only taking one pain pill at a time (even though she can take two if she needs it).

Her scar is much smaller than mine or Lovemygirls, four inches or so - about half mine.

She would probably have been allowed to go home today, but they're keeping her one more night and she'll mostly likely go home early tommorow.

Sissy called me a few minutes ago! She's doing great. We talked for over 15 minutes. She's out of ICU and sounds strong and healthy. She says she's not in much pain, other than the scar itself.

I'm going to go out to see her tommorow and Dr. Hampf says she'll probably be able to go home Friday.

I just got off the phone with Sissy's husband.

She just came out of surgery and Dr Hampf said everything went fine. No complications.

She's expected to stay in recovery and ICU for probably the rest of the day. Then go to a room sometime tonight. She'll be at the hospital for 4 or 5 days.

He's going to keep me informed as to how she's doing and I'll probably go out there either tommorow or Thursday. I'll keep y'all in the loop as soon as I hear things.
