5 1/2 and is still occasionally wetting herself

What am I to do?  I am exasperated with my 5 1/2 year old daughter.  She still sporadically has accidents!  She peed in her pants at school 2 days ago and then she did it again tonight right in front of the toilet!
The incident at school occurred in the lunch room.  She asked a monitor for permission to go to the lav, but the monitor told her no because her class was lining up to leave.  She said she tried her hardest, but she literally flooded herself.  Then, she was so embarrassed, she waited until she was back in the class to get cleaned up!
Tonight, she played at a friend's house after dinner.  When I called her home to get showered and ready for bed, she refused to come in.  I chased her around the yard, and picked her up and put her inside.  I told her to go to her room, get undressed, and get ready to get in the shower.  When I got there, she was running to the bathroom, and she tripped over the step stool.  When she hit the floor, she said 'uh oh" and just sat there and peed.  The flood gates opened again!  Even though I was standing right there telling her not to pee, she did anyway!
Is this a behavioral issue?  She was terrible to potty train and she has had accidents sporadically since she started potty training.

I had occasional accidents till I was in second grade. It was more of a childhood/ seperation anxiety than anything else. I outgrew it. This is not really all that unusual. Children outgrow wetting accdients at their own pace.

I would still have medical issue ruled out though, of course. Always rule out med issues.

My sister-in-law's brother had this problem growing up, and he had a terrible kidney disease.  Please insist that she get checked out.  The situations you described did not sound like a behavior problem.

I would think it's a bladder problem if it hadn't happened much, but she has a long history of accidents...  It's not daily or even weekly anymore.  Now it's maybe once a month, but she seems to have stretches where there will be an accident or two in a week's time, and then she's dry for awhile. I talked to the doctor about this when she was 3, and again when she was 4.  They said that usually having accidents is behavioral in nature and to just reward good behavior.  It didn't work...she still periodically has accidents.  Her 2 year old brother is completely potty trained and has had NO issues with accidents at all!  He is even dry though his nap.  Any ideas?

It sounds like she is having a bladder problem.  You should get her checked out soon.  You can also tell the school that she is having a problem and needs to go to the bathroom immediately if she asks to go.  You may wish to keep a change of clothes in her backpack in case this happens again.

Good luck and God bless.
