Honestly, this sounds like gross neglect to me.
Children in orphanages commonly have coprophagia - from the neglect, boredom and sadness of having no adult to take care of and interact with them.
How many hours a day are these two little girls locked in their rooms with no parental interaction, would you guess? Is this like, all day every day?
Dogs also do this, when caged and neglected - it's not unusual for a puppy coming from a petshop who's been there a couple months, with no cuddling, to develop coprophagia.
A small child should not be left alone for hours to play with a sibling - they need care and attention.
Have to agree 100% with post above. Children will do this when they are left alone for too long.
Having a video monitor on a child is not the same as interacting with a child.
My 20 mo. old granddaughter has started putting her hands in her diaper, and eating her poop, and smearing it all over everywhere. She has no developmental disorders, and we are at our wits end dealing with this. She is not left alone for extended periods. I would like to know a solution. Does anyone have any input?
Is this post for real? Concerned about eating poo? I think there are many bigger problems with the parenting techniques used here. Child Protection Act comes to mind!!!!
This child is left alone children who are not attnede to regularly do this I suggest you make sure some is supervising and looking after her or call child services .....I would call it gross neglect .,....
OK!!! My son is 2 and we are potty training now!! I'm a stay at home mother. We play with him alot!!! We have sword fights, I color with him every day and we go to the park often! This morning I saw him eat his poop and Im not sure what to do!!!! Am I doing something wrong?? His learning curve is well above the norm!! (So Im sure he does not have any kind of mentel handicap!!!) What do I do???
I have just discovered my 8yr old daughter eating her poo! 6months ago we had a 2nd child, her brother. Although she loves him and he adores her, I'm TOTALLY devastasted! I have just gone back to work and am not sure how this happened, but started to notice strange behaviour about 4 weks ago and thought i had nipped it in the bud..OBVIOUSLY NOT!
Please help...what can i do?
Take him to your doctor , there is a reason an 8 year old would be doing this .
Thanks for your comment, it was an attention seeking manouvre...ongoing issue, but not to this extent! Thank god!
None of this is neglect.
It's all to do with psychopathology.
at aged 2-3, the child is obsessed with their anus and feces, called the 'anal phase'.
Just the same as a child from 0-2 is obsessed with putting things in their mouths to explore things, meaning the child is in the oral phase.
It's apparent that the child is experiencing both.
