I have a 5 year old daughter who is an OI (Osteogenesis imperfecta) patient, and has had many broken bones and spent a lot of time in casts, We have not had one in two years now. But since alittle over a year ago I have noticed some behaviors which concern me.
She beats on her older sister, who is 10 years old, regularly. And no matter how much I try to make her stop, she does not. She also exhibits some dislike towards her baby brother, who is only 18 monthes old, she tried to make him swallow a stick, among other things. She seems vary shallow in everything she says and does, she seems to understand why someone else is hurting or upset, but doesn't seem to empathize with them. She seems kind of empty, but at the same time she is the most charming and sweetest child to every adult in her world, her teacher, aunts, other family members. When they are around she doesn't act out the way she does when its just us here at home.
I guess there's a lot to go into here, but I have no idea whether some of this is normal due to the lack of casts, wanting that extra attention through any means possible or should she see a professional.
Has she been so damaged by the pain from the breaks that she acts out in these ways? She didn't take pain medication willingly during the last cast, and she had broken her femur into 3 pieces. I did get it in her at night, but thats the only time she would take it.
Thats all for now I think
You have just described my elder granddaughter. Her mother (our DIL) suffers from BPD - Borderline Personality Disorder. I'm not saying this is the issue with your child but I feel, it is the issue with ours. The point - mental health issues are definitely a genetic trait. I hope you are wrong ..... and I am so sorry.
