vomiting after every meal

Our 8 year old son has been vomiting after every meal.  This is not like vomiting with the flu-it just stays in his mouth until he gets to the toilet.  We are not sure how long this has been going on because he hid it because he thought he would get in trouble or other kids would pick on him.  When asked he said it has been happening for a long time.  We noticed that he would go to the bathroom right after meals but thought it was due to IBS because his father has that.  He has not been making himself puke-it happens on its own.  The dr. checked for intestinal blockage-there is none.  It is not related to food allergies or to bad food.  He doesn't have weight loss at this point.  Any ideas????

Good afternoon,
My oldest son had GERD (Gasto esophageal reflux) and after practically every meal he'd "verp" as we called it (Berp with vomit). He had sour breath in the morning and actually got to a point where he didn't want to eat b/c he didn't want to throw up anymore. So we spoke with his dr and she put him on prevacid and tums. They've done the trick. Good luck! I know the one thing she told us is that if GERD goes undetected it can cause barretts esophagus (which can be cancerous) and it can cause the system to be pretty acidic.

My best friend's brother had this.  He went to the doctor and there was nothing wrong with him.  He put up with this for a year and finally tried the chiropracter.  He had a pinched nerve and the only sympton was the vomiting.  It sounds like this could also be affecting your son.  Good luck and I hope he feels better.

I've heard of this happening - and it's due to anxiety.  The person doesn't APPEAR to have anxiety so it's not like a panic attack,  but it's an anxiety reaction.   A very mild dose of anti anxiety medication is what helped the boy I know who had this.

This will be obvious to him if this is what he's experiencing - he tries to swallow but somehow the timing feels "off",  and the food stays stuck in his throat until he has a gag response and vomits.

If this is what your son is experiencing,  he'll know it.

It sounds like you need to go to a gastroenterologist for a complete round of tests - vomiting this often is so destructive!

Best wishes.  I hope you find out what's causing this soon.

I don't believe he has trouble swallowing since this happens after meals not during... but I will check when he gets home to be sure.  If it does, then do you have ideas??

Does he have problems with swallowing?  Does his throat "close up" around food that he's trying to swallow?
