My child won't color in Pre-K

My 4 year old has been in pre-k for four months and resists coloring.  He doesn't throw tantrums, but simply won't color his pages.  This is the first thing he has to do when he walks in the room.  He gets in trouble every day with notes sent home, and even has been sent to the principal a few times.  Eventually she makes him color it, but it drags on all day.  On the few days he colors his work right away I make sure to hang the pictures proudly in our home, and he is punished at home by removing something he likes.  Nothing seems to have an effect.  What can we adults do to get one little four year old boy to color his papers and stay out of trouble?  His teacher says she's never had a child do this, and she has been teaching a very long time.  Both he and his teacher are miserable over the situation.  He is capable, so why won't he just do it?

I disagree - and everyone can start their griping but sometimes there are things we don't like to do like pay the bills and wash the dishes and clean the kitty litter box - but I have to- and coloring teaches fine motor skills and follwing directions and boundaries and oh let's see COLORS-
so youre right not coloring is not a HUGE deal in itself- BUT coloring will not kill him-

I was sorta wondering if it was the feel of the crayons or something kinda bizarre like that- and that would be covered by "the disabilities act" possibly- I had an autistic boy who would not play with shaving cream when we were learning shapes and the rest of the kids loved it but- I realized he didn't like "the feel" and he actually gagged- and I didn't make him play with the shaving cream- there was a reason-

He won't color?  How ever will he get into college?

He doesn't like to color.  Maybe instead of having a typical  girl activity like coloring be the first work the kids do when they arrive,  she might switch to a typical boy activity like stacking blocks.  You can color,  or you can stack blocks,  it's your choice.  Do your best.

I think that would solve it.

Some day,  Hbrous,  you're going to look back on this and laugh really hard.
