trouble sleeping in own bed or room

My son will be turning 2 in May 2011.  He used to sleep in his own room in his own bed with no hassles at all.  This was from the age of about 6 months.  He used to occasionally climb out of bed and in with my husband and myself or his grandparents who are living with us.  As we will be moving to a new house in a couple of weeks, we thought it wise for him to sleep on a mattress in our room (next to my side of the bed) while we use his original room to store all the packed boxes, etc. He had no problem sleeping in his make-shift bed or our room for quite a few weeks. Recently (last couple of days) he is even refusing to sleep in our room (not even in my bed) or even with his grandparents as occasionally.  He will only sleep in the TV room (tv  & lights) do not even have to be on.  when he is asleep and we attempt to move him, he wakes and screams & sobs till he can go back to the TV room and then he is fine (while there).  What is causing this all of a sudden strange behaviour?  is it a phase?  how long will it last? what can i do to combat it?  I am very desperate!!

He is doing it because he knows he can, by making a big noise ,you all  gave way to him, it means being firmer and meaning it so he gets the message ,consistency' nasty little word no one likes ...You have created the issue by allowing it in the first place , now the undoing comes .You can of course have the family bed , many do and it does work, whilst they are young ,.Its not very safe to allow him to wander round the house at night, he may fall, so what you do is decide which bed and where no choices you are the boss,  and when he gets out/off take him back, firmly without too much talking he will do it again and again ,you will exhaustingly take him back, you can sit on a chair in the chosen room if you want to whilst he quietens down ,Once he knows you mean it this time it will work .Good luck
