What do I do when I can't get my son help anywhere?!

My son has hated school since the 1st week of Jr kindergarten when he was sent to the office for "hugging" another child.  He is an only child and stay at home till school age.   He had behaved poorly when tired and if got awoken when sleeping he would turned into a stranger - like he was possessed by demons.  I had him checked by a Pediatrician before school started and she said he was fine - he didn't show signs of adhd etc.  He started being bullied in school in Sr kindergarten by a boy 3 yrs older and has been bullied by the same to date (my son was in gr 2 this yr)   I reported this to the school of which they failed to do help except punish my son by restricting his playtime to avoid being bullied.  Now he has become the bully and doesn't listen, do his schoolwork etc.  His school has taught him that bulling is acceptable???    I have once again gone to my sons doctor for help and his doctor will not refer him - tells me I have to find someone myself.   I have tried to have school board allow him to change schools to get away from the bully but they won't.   I am at a loss for what I can do as a parent to protect my child and get the help he needs.

I don't know the health care system in Canada,  so I don't know the implications of the doctor refusing to refer your son for counseling.  What would the doctor say are his reasons for not being involved?

And what about the school and school board?  Not that their perspective is correct,  I'd just be curious about what their perspective is in not helping your son,  and why they would send him to the office for a true "hug".   It sounds like they have a different viewpoint.

Best wishes.

I can understand your concerns.  But I am having trouble following the years of problems.  Sounds like he will be in 3rd grade next year?  And now he is the bully and doesn't do his homework, etc.
I think if you could focus on just this year.  What his teachers are complaining about.  How are his grades?  Perhaps what he does at home that bothers you.  Then we might have a better picture of what is going on.   The past is important, but we need to understand the present first.
Oh, and the other kid who used to bully him - that is still going on?  What grade is that child in now?

I am sorry this is happening.  Is his teacher entirely unsympathetic to your problems?
