My baby's the same way. I have twin boys (preemies). They're 41 days old. The oldest has the same problem your baby has. He is always hungry. On 4oz he developed acid reflux and was constantly vomitting through the nose. We reduced to 2oz every 2hrs, now he cries all day, but he sleeps a bit more at night. 3 hours at a time. He's a pretty small baby. I'm hoping I can get some advice as well. I'm in the process of changing my pediatrician so I'm really lost. By the way, he's lactose intolerant and is on a soy based formula. I wonder if that makes a difference
My son is now 9 months old and VERY healthy. He is not over or underweight. With that being said, he was born 6 lbs exactly. I breast fed him for a month when I realized that I was not producing enough milk for him, so we switched him to formula. He did just what your is doing so I finally added about a half an ounce of rice cereal to a 6 oz bottle and gave it to him. It really helped. I know what the doctors but you know what? They did not study my baby and no two babies are exactly alike. At 3 months he was on oatmeal, at 6 months I put him on baby 1st foods. I didn't feed him at by the book after I quit breastfeeding b/c "by the book" wasn't working for him. Just go with what you know about your child. You'll know if your moving too fast the first time it happens.
This chart is from my doctor and I hope it helps you.
Breastfed babies should be fed on demand 5 to 10 minutes per breast.
Formula fed babies should be fed every two to three hours from the end of the last feeding. A good rule of thumb is twenty mintues, after that they are just eating to eat.
0 to 1 month of age should be fed 6 to 8 times a day 2 to 4 oz at each feeding
1 to 2 months of age should be fed 5 to 7 times a day 3 to 5oz at each feeding
2 to 3 months of age should be fed 4 to 6 times a day 4 to 7 oz at each feeding
3 to 4 months of age should be fed 4 to 6 times a day 5 to 8 oz at each feeding
4 to 6 months you would do the 8 oz a feeding plus baby cereal
6 to 8 months you would do the 8 oz a feeding plus baby cereal and veggies and fruits
8 month to a year you would do the 8 oz plus baby cereal, veggies, fruit and meats. also fruit juices and grains.
Congratulations on your baby boy! He may be having a growth spurt. Is he a big baby? Also, he may be ready to advance from 4 to 5 ounces. Try to hold him off of feeding for 3 hours with a pacifier. You should be ok increasing it about 1/2 an ounce every three days if he needs it.
Is he a slow eater? How much does he drink from the bottle in 30 minutes? This is the amount that he should be taking, then slowly over time increase the formula. He may have gas, too, because they will often think that they are hungry with it. You can check with your pediatrician, but I gave mine simethicone(mylicon or little tummies). Swaddle him with his blanket for comfort.
Also, you said that he does this all day long. What does he do at night? Is he sleeping all night. Because if he is he may be making up for the formula throughout the day.
Hope this helps out, as I have a lot of questions in here,
