incessant eye blinking

My granddaughter blinks her eyes and has to cough several times a minute . she has just started to blink her eyes and sometimes rolls them backward... she does well in school and does not appear to have a cold...she has been coughing since she was two years old , and now she has started blinking both eyes incessantly ... we have tried to bring it to her attention and she says she isn't doing it on purpose ...it just does it ... Is there something we should do...what type doctor should we consider taking her to ...she is seven years old now... is there a specialist that we should take her to, besides a general practioner ? Thank you for your help ....

My youngest baby had constant eye rolling and we had seizures ruled out.  I took her to the pediatrician and he ordered a sleep test--I think it was an EEG (electro encephaly gram?).  I can't remember the name, but your doctor would know.  Evidently, there is a type of seizure that can cause those types of activity--leg twitching, eye rolling/blinking--that type of thing.  Get it checked out.  It may end up like our case--a phase. I don't know about the coughing, but I would get a chest xray and a MRI done as well.   Also--anxiety can cause coughs--and tension might cause the eye problems--you know--like when you are stressed and your eye starts twitching.
Good luck.

Hi, one of my children had continuous blinking, I think it lasted about three months and then stopped suddenly.    We never found out what was causing our daughter to do it, but because it stopped thought it was a phase?  Maybe you should take her to the Opticians and speak to them, they could refer you to someone.  Good luck!
