My Strange Head

Hello! I am 16 years old, and i have strange things happening in my head. I sometimes see a bright light flicker in my head or at least i think it is in my head, and i flinch. Sometimes I see animals mouth move and they speak to me and i hear the words plain as day. Once or twice i saw like a jaguar come towards my face as if it was going to bite me. I have been bitten by a dog before. I also have imaginary worlds in my head, and my friend in my head is the main character. It is like I am narrating a story in my head. I even have a continuous story in my head in which i am the main character, and horrible things happen. So is it normal for me to have all these strange things in my head? Are these things effects of schizophrenia?

I see this was posted last year but just had to add a comment... Does this happen when you close your eyes, like when you lie down to sleep at night? I used to have strange visions of shapes and colors and hear crazy voices in my head like that, especially at night when I tried to relax. This happened when I was a child and teenager but then went away (I'm 40 now). Later I read that people who have migraines often have these experiences when they are young. And that happened to me, I had classic migraines as a teenager and still have a lot of headaches. So I feel this is likely a neurological thing and not a sign of mental illness at all. Google Alice in Wonderland Syndrome to read about some of the crazy things migraine sufferers experience. And you might not have a headache at all when you are seeing and hearing these things. I never did, and I didn't even know it wasn't normal!

jessicagk, if it is schizophrenia it is okay. I sometimes have heard voices in my head too, or I cannot get thoughts to stop. It could be related to ptsd. Stuff like this happens sometimes. Can you talk to a doctor?  I bet they can help you.

jessicagk,  this is unusual at your age.

On the other hand,  you are a tiny bit young for schizophrenia.  That usually happens a couple years later.

Do you have mental illness in your family?
