Co sleeping

Please help, my son who is 8 sleeps in our bed on almost a nightly basis.  This has been going on since he was 4.  Before he would want us to  lay down with him in his bed or let him lay with us for a few minutes and he would fall asleep.  However, in the middle of the night, he would end up in our bed.  Now that he is 8, actually he just turned 9, he asks almost nightly if he can sleep in our bed.  We tell him no but he will cry and say he is scared or he is sick or he just can't fall asleep.  Even if he does fall asleep in his room, he ends up in our bed.  He shares a room with his 4 year old brother but he states that does not help him.  Our 4 year old has no problems falling and staying asleep.  There are times when he doesn't get to bed until 11 or 11:30 which makes the next morning unbearable.  I have tried rewards, threats, catching all the monters before bed, music but I am at my wit's end.  What can I do?

You are allowing him to sleep in your bed otherwise he wouldn't be able to , many families do sleep together in my opinion it is okay whilst they are young, you sound as if you would like to have the bed to yourselves so just do it. Tell him No, let him read and read him some stories, say goodnight and leave, yes he will come up with all kinds of excuses but once you stay consistent , dont give in ,he will get the idea. You say he ends up in your bed, he can only do that if you allow him to ...Good luck
