cholesterol

I am 64, I exercise 4-5 days a week, about Hour &half each time.Lot's of caerdio, plus weights,
do Krav Maga twice aweek. Weight 158, height 5,7.

Doctor wants to put me on medicine ,cholesterol 251m HDL 29, did not get LDL, but not good.

Last time, I tried Liptor, and got sick for four months.

My mom is 94, low Cholesterol, Dad was 93 when he died, Heart attack, also had low cholesterol.

My cholesterol has always been 220-240. My health is great.

Diet does not change things. I also use 5mg of Andro Jel.

Is a cholesterol drug worth the risk??

Thank You

My cholesterol was all the way up to 300 before I got put on Tricor. That was 6 years ago and now, since I've been on it, my bad cholesterol is down to 155-160. My doctor said it's doing great. So, I think it is worth a chance to see if it could help or not, but I also have to agree with Sweetwaterguy on what he said, as well. I would have your HDL and your LDL checked first.

You need to know your overall ratio of good HDL to bad LDL cholesterol.  With your good family history, you may have an excellent ratio, and your total cholesterol should not be an issue.
However, if you find your numbers are not in your favor, there are other things you can do.  Your doctor can certainly help you decide.  You may be able to tolerate another statin.  Some people get a benefit from time release Niacin.

It has been for me, I'm on Vytorin and while on the drug my TC is 168, my LDL is only 53, and when I'm off it my TC runs 220-225 and my LDL over 100. I have had absolutley no side effects.

Good Luck!
