Chronic, treatment-resistant back pain is one of the most difficult kinds of back pain to diagnose and treat. Psychological back pain, also known as psychosomatic back pain, is one of the most frequent causes of unresolved, undiagnosed, and even misdiagnosed neck pain, back pain and/or sciatica. We will explore psychosomatic chronic back pain, its possible causes and its implications for the individual and for society. The medical community has failed to properly educate doctors on how to treat this rapidly growing segment, this epidemic of chronic back pain patients. We will also discuss the ways to properly initiate a treatment strategy that will help alleviate symptoms until a clear diagnosis can be made and permanent resolution achieved.
