Ever heard of a pneumonia causing a stroke?

My mother with already compromised lungs had an pneumonia. She went to the er, was put in icu then a day later sedated with breathing tube and oxygen along with iv antibiotics. On the third day she suffered a massive stroke early in the morning while no visitors were there. They were trying to wean her off of the oxygen just 2 days in. Had anyone heard of such a thing like this ever happening?
