Does early detection help emphasema patients?

I am 25 years old and have smoked for 10 years. Several aunties, uncles and both my grandfathers have or did have emphasema. I seem to get brethless more easily now and when i had to run recently my chest really hurt. when i get a cold it often turns into broncitis and one time pnemonia. I am about to try and quit (again!). what I am wondering is if i do have early stage emphasema and if there would be any benefit in getting this diagnoses. I guess the real question is, is it too late?

yes , is the short answer , because you still have lung capacity to hold onto , I was diagnosed a few weeks back, im 42 , at first I was devastated , but I am also glad that I know , I diddnt really have any symptoms and if I did I just thought it was my asthma , I smoked the odd bit of weed ...but now I will never do that again , if you stop smoking the rate of decline will be similar to a person who has never smoked
