Generally, an ultrasound isn't exactly what you're looking for. I am 31, and have been struggling with my liver issues due to alcoholism for about 10 years. The only real way to see the Damage Done to your liver is through blood tests. Ultrasounds can help once the blood tests are done, but I don't believe it is a definitive Factor by itself. if you have reason to believe that there is significant damage done, I would highly suggest going to a liver specialist.
Well not sure why messing around with a friends portable ultrasound would do anything as far as being screwed no idea what you are thinking there.
If you think you saw something it takes a doctor specially trained in interpreting US images do describe any possible annomoly and differentiate from a normal image.
My suggestion is leave medical imaging equipment alone and leave interpretation of results to trained medical personal.
