Dental pain

I had a partial root canal done and just got an infection. I got amoxiclav antibiotics, took two of them and now I'm in a lot of pain and my bottom jaw/cheek is hard as a rock. My dentist appointment is in 2 weeks but I want to know how long for the swelling to go down and how long for the pills to start working? Please help, and hopefully I can get an answer soon. Thank you!

Hi,
I also agree with scottma.  Antibiotics take about three days to work.  Rinsing with warm salt water can help alleviate the pain a bit, but if the pain hasn't relieved itself in a few days, you may want to give your dentist a call and see if they want to switch your antibiotic.

GOOD LUCK and I hope you are pain free shortly.
My best to you,
Gellia

Complete elimination of infection source is the treatment of choice. Antibiotics may provide temporary relief. If augmentin doesn,t work in 72 hours, you may need to switch to another antibiotics. Seeing your dentist ASAP is advised.
