Coming off depression meds, need help

My partner is currently trying to come off a drug called citalapram. She normally takes 2 pills a day and has been for a number of years now.

Anyway, it has killed her motivation. She can't get up, sleeps all the time and is gaining wait. She wants to come off it.

She has been on 1 and 1/2 pills now for the last week. She is having big problems dealing with it such as server depression coming back. She is basically in tears half the day.

My question is: Is this going to get better? Is she going about the right way coming off these pills? Should she just try to deal with it and get through or go back on to the pill.

Many thanks.

i'd say please see a psychiatrist before coming off the meds. also, keep her active, mild exercise everyday for atleast 20 mins while coming off the med will help to keep up moods. hope she feels better. take care.

I'd still contact a psychiatrist to find the best way to stop, though they might just tell you to do what your already doing.

My Advice:
A couple weeks with 1 1/2 pills, then down to 1, then to 1/2 and then off.  That was probably your idea already.  Keep her active while tapering off the medication.  If I were to attempt to quit my own medication,  that would be how I would do it.

She really wants to just stop all medication. She has never really had much luck with any. They all seem to have side effects which just are not worth it. Like I said the latest one work okish but she is unable to work and gaining weight. It makes her tired non stop. The other ones made her a robot.

Has she considered switching medication instead of dropping it?  Many depression medications are only effective for so many years, and many people change pills multiple times in their lives.  Contact a psychiatrist for sure.  Good luck.
