Is it hormonal or depression?

I've been finding myself deeply depressed starting a day or two before my period.  This last time the depression has lasted an additional two days.   I'm finally beginning to feel normal again but while I'm down I can't function, I don't want to get out of bed and I'm calling in sick at work.    I'm 42 and wondering if this isn't a hormonal embalace that I'm struggling with instead.

it's possible that you might be starting menopause. talk to your doctor about it and tell him/her your symptoms. they should be able to help you sort through this.

I heard of this before and i think it is  called "premenstrual dysphoric disorder" do some research on that and see if it sounds like it could be the issue.

Hope you get an answer soon!!
