Major mood disorder

Can anyone tell me what's the difference between being dx with Major mood disorder and depression? I finally went to get help today and the dr dx me with MMD, she also said while depression can go away major mood disorders don't.

I'm confused, I really thought this was depression or PTSD.  What should I ask to get an easy explanation about this? any info on what this means is greatly appreciated and I'll ask questions when I go back next week.

I know I've had depression problems my entire life; esp mood swings that worsened in the past 2 years but I just thought it was depression related.

When I look up major mood disorder, I get a ton of things like depression, manic/depressive, bi polar etc with no real information on what this means.

Althoug you do not have a final diagnosis yet Mood disorder os Mood disturbance are what get you started.  If a more particular diagnosis wasn't able to be reached, it will.  I have bipolar 1 and it is a severe, yet treatable mood disorder.  Depression will go away if it is just normal depression.  My type of depression is uncontrollable.  It happens when it wants and I have to battle it every time it comes.  I would be careful about diagnosing yourself but please look up more information about bipolar both type 1 and 2.  You may find the information on bipolar 2 more helpful.....Good Luck.

ok thanks, I was hoping someone knew or had this.

I was surprised though she said depression can go away but major mood disorders never go away, you just have episodes throughout your life that are major then as you age they tend to be more frequent and closer together.
