Mood Disorders

I asked my Dr. to start weening me off effexor xr. I  am dealing with a thyroid condition and have put on 35 lbs. in 2 months.
Has anyone gained alot of weight from effexor xr?   I am taking 150 mg. He told me to take 75 mg for a week,  then 37.5 for a week. Can I expect withdrawals?

Thank you for your response, Remar. After reading your comment and other comments of people who have had experience with effexor ( I looked up the drug then all the posts), I know I made the right decision to hold off. I am going to speak to my oncologist who originally put me on effexor for my hot flashes 18 months ago.  My PCP gave me the instructions above. I think my excessive weight gain in such a short period of time, is from being hypothyroid. I was panicking to remove anything that was attributing to that.  I don't need anymore craziness added to the pot right now!

Effexor can cause weight gain in some people. It did'nt when I took it.
It sounds like your Dr might be weaning you a little too fast. Listen to you body and if you have any problems ask him to make another weaning plan for you.   Remar
