Mood Disorders

This is the medication I am most worried about taking during my pregnancy, I take 50mg of Seroquel CR per day. This is an antipsychotic/Antidepressant and is used in the treatment of most of my symptoms. It is a very important med that I take. It Treats symptoms of schizophrenia, unusual suspiciousness or emotionl withfrawal and causes depressed, anxious or tense feelings. Symptoms of mania associated with bipolar disorder , racing thoughts, irritability, aggressiveness, agitation, Impulsive behaviour or excessively elevated mood. Trreats depression associated with bipolar disorder such as sadness, feeling guilty, lack of energy, loss of appetite and sleep disturbance. This is every symptom I experience when I do not take my meds. This one is the most important, if i stop my meds i experience every symptom to the fullest and do not function in a normal way at all. This is the only med that indicates to ask a Doctor if it is safe to take this during pregnancy? What do I do? I can not go off my meds. I have been on them for  almost 8 years now. I suffer from chemical imbalances in the brain, if I stop this medication I will be unable to function in a normal mental state in public.

I left you a reply on your other thread (in the addiction community).  You need to call your OB right NOW and tell him what is going on.  You need to come clean and tell him all of the drugs you have been taking during your pregnancy, including the Seroquel (you need to be 100% honest and tell him EVERYTHING).  How far along are you?  Have you received ANY prenatal care?

This is a dire situation, and I cannot stress enough the importance of contacting your doctor right NOW....before irrepairable damage is done to your baby...or you AND the baby die.  Seriously....this is not something to take lightly.

PLEASE call him right now.  Please post an update after you do.  I pray you and your baby are okay.

Its just my prescription medication I am worried about. I have been on these meds since my daughter was born in 2004. I am almost 13wks. My doctor is fully aware of what I am taking and is looking in to other meds and vitamins. The substance abuse is like once a wk. It went from everyday all day to maybe a little one day a week. Thank you so much for your concerns. You sounded  very concerned. I wanted to post the addiction for my own knowledge and understanding of what might happen.

I'm very confused.  If your doctor is aware of all of the meds you're on, why did you ask this....This is the only med that indicates to ask a Doctor if it is safe to take this during pregnancy?

That doesn't make a lot of sense.

Also...have you told your doctor about the substance abuse?  Once a week is too much, especially with the drugs you listed.  You are EARLY on in the pregnancy.  This is the most critical time for growth and development.  Actually, the first trimester would have been even more critical.  When did you "cut down"?

I cannot stress enough...only YOU know what you've told your doctor and what you're doing...but if you haven't come clean with your doctor...you are risking so much.

You are also on some heavy hitting pysch meds.  I'm really finding it hard to believe your OB is aware of everything you are prescribed and is ok with them.  Are you sure you're not scared the doctor will take you off your meds, therefore you maybe haven't said anything?  This is SO important.

I just have a bad feeling in my gut.  You DON'T want to have to look at a child with severe impairments for a lifetime, wondering why you didn't do the right thing.  I just cannot find enough ways to say it.

Something just is not adding up.  I wish the best for you and your baby.
