Obsessions

Hi ,

I am Swetha working in the software company in Pune. The problem i wanted to discuss the problem which is faced by my Fiancee , he is also a  S/w Engg , He is 27 years old.

He was facing the problem while concentrating in his work from last 3 -4 years. whenever he wanted to concentrate in any work he is doing he cannot .. all his concentration goes in his Breathing .He cannot concentrate properly  on  anything he is doing ,  as the thought of breathing will come in between and  his mind forces to just watch the breathing process.  And if he wants to force the mind to concentrate in the work some kind of the pressure will be build up in his Brain which will make him tired mentally .

We went to the Doc 1.4 years and she said that he is  having OBSESSION .

And she has given the medicines

1. UVOX           100 mg
2. CLOFRANIL   50  mg

Both tablets 1 - 1  in the night.

He has the dose for 7 - 8 months then she has suggested to reduce the dose  to

UVOX            50 mg
CLOFRANIL   25 mg

But sometimes he will have UVOX 100 mg also when he feels like obsession is still there after having 50 mg.

Now  here the problem is he has to have the tablets daily ,, if he will skip the dose for one day also  he will feel the obsession again  more  on the next day.

So, we are in doubt that the medicines are curing him or not .. or its making him dependant on them .

Does he need to the take the pills throught out his life time ?

Is there any side effects of these pills, Doc said there wont be any side effect for these pills .

But  i have read in NET that taking UVOX for long time will  make the bones week.

Please suggest us on these .. Is there any cure  for  this ?

Can this be treated without having the pills for a longer time .

Please suugest ...

Ur Suggestion are valuable for us.

Many Thanks In Advance

Thanks

Swetha

Hi,

I understand quite well what your fiance must be going through, mine too is more of the same but with a different obsession, it started with me at 19 1/2, initial days would have been tough for him but eventually he will learn to enjoy life most of us. I too get obsessed about my type, when I remember it or am alone, its worrying disease leading to depression and anxiety.

Am out of it but stuck with another, obsessions change from one form to another....the mind keeps ramming issues thats hard to solve and where it gets stuck the most, leading to inner conflicts depriving oneself of peace, please ask him not to focus on solving the irrational problem and rather focus on having a peaceful approach with himself <<< this might be little difficult to understand, but once able to get the idea, he will be at more ease, eventually having required energy to complete most of the task with less trouble, life wont be a drag.

His case is very similar to mine, which encouraged me to reply! I was on chlofranil.....but left it within weeks as it had side effects on me which worsened my case.........along with zapiz too was prescribed, which worked wonders, now am in and out of it, medication is no more a compulsion for me. :)

The thoughts are their but my reaction to them has largely changed, I witness them rather than participate in my mind.

Hi Shwetha,
Nothing to worry, help him to live better with the medicines. There are still better medicines in the market with less side effects. Have a discussion with your psychiatrist. Since u have not mentioned of any symptoms of the illness there is no clear picture of his illness.....

He must take these medicines for a long time just to keep his symptoms away and there is nothing bad as long as he is fine with these drugs..

Ask him to avoid wheat completely for few weeks . There are brain allergies to glutten in wheat and can cause depression and other mental problems . He should take a good multivitamin and specially b vitamins which are good for nervous system . I can't tell you more . Pls keep me updated ***@**** , btw I am also from India..

Best luck !
