getting off prozac

I have been taking prozac for about 5 years or so, slowly increasing the dose over time from 10mg to now 30 mg.  I somehow missplaced my bottle and have been out for 2 days the only problem i have had is agitation and loose bowels which may also be due to holiday over eating.  I was in a car accident last year and thats when i decided to increase my dose to 30mg because i was bed ridin for a month or so.  So i have been taking 30mg for a little over a year now, but my whole life has changed since i first started taking the medication.  However there is still PMDD problems around that time of the month.  I really think its time i get off prozac! is it possible for me to just stop or do i need to tapper! if so can u tell me how to tapper to decrease possible upcomming side effects of withdrawl.

You really do need to take it slow when getting off any SSRI. I do have to say Prozac is great for PMDD, it's usually the non hormonal treatment chosen. When I was diagnosed wtih Bipolar they took me off my SSRI and put me on a mood stabilizer, my PMDD was so horrid I was suicidal.  There is a discussion about only taking a SSRI for 10 days a month, but the withrdrawal symptoms are so bad that it's better to stay on it, even at a low dose. Long term these drugs are good if you don't have Bipolar or borderline disorder, I would really chat with your doctor before doing anything.

No you cant just stop.  If you have none I think you should contact a doctor for advice.  Maybe go to a hospital and tell them you lost the bottle.

Best of luck

Your own Doctor will tell you how to taper then
