I've been using it for over a year. I find it great. I have no side effects whatsoever. It does, however, only decrease my depression by a small amount but it is the difference between suicidal and not suicidal so I consider it important in my treatment.
Everyone is different, so I am probably not typical but I was desperate and it helps.
Although it does nothing for my manic mood swings unfortunately so you will need to take that into account if that happens to you and supplement with another drug. Good luck.
For my bipolar disorder I'd rate lamictal a strong 9 :)
My moods have been more stable than they have ever been.
I also don't get any side effects!
I love love love being on Lamictal. It truly has been wonderful as far as depression/mood my only negative comment about it is I have trouble sleeping sometime.
Yeah that's very true different things work for different people i'm just always scared of medications changing me or my behavior i just always want to be me, AND i don't want any medication to change that. But i'm glad you've found something that works for you! Hopefully it works for me. I wish they did too i think that it's really stupid they don't especially when it comes to your brain and your body , but nothing is ever without side effects.
I cannot believe they let it get that far without taking you off. I was just on zoloft and clonazapam and i just got switched to buspar and lamictal . I'm taking it for depression and bipolar . But if i have any problems with my balance or remembering things i will get off of it immediately . It would be awesome if they could make just 1 medication that didn't have any side effects wouldn't it? I just took buspar last night and it made me a little shaky at first and a little tired, I don't know how i'll react to the lamictal but i hope nothing bad happens.
My doctor put me on it two years ago and seem to have a good affect but couldn't afford it until it went generic. I have been on it over a year ago now and its stabilized my depression. I was also on 300mg of effexor no I am on 150mg. I haven't had any side affects that I know of. I guess it works differently on different people. Prescribing mental health drugs is a bit of black magic as my doctor says. You never know how its going to work until you try it. I wish the industry would put more research into physical diagnosis instead of this trial by error technique.
For what its worth.I was on Lamactil for aprox. 8 years for seizures. The seizures were a result from Chemo after breast cancer. The lamactil at first helped the seizures. but I had balance issues. I got to the point of using a cane.(broke a shoulder) The Lamactil was increased because I had an increase in seizures . I Had more siezures so again it was increased, I could not think, concentrate or remember things. I insisted the Dr. take me off of it. He would only do it in the hospital .I am on zoloff & Clonazapam and rarely have a seizure. I use no cane. I can think. My rating 0. It is a dangerous drug as far as I am concerned. Was it just me? NO, I have talked to several people who have used it. They say the same thing.it worked for them/(Bipolar.) but the side affects were not worth it. and the long term have to be concidered. Read all that you can find on it before starting it please.
