Dry spot on penile shaft, doesn't seem to get bettet

So about a month ago I noticed a small flaky spot on my shaft. I've gotten them before so I just rubbed some petroleum jelly on and paid it no mind. Well, after "activities" and what not, a few weeks later it just seemed to get bigger and drier. Well, I started applying lotion and it got a little better but not completely healed. It was still red. So after that I did some research and it seems to be a fungal infection. Not a yeast infection though. And so I got some lotrimin. I've been putting it on three times a day for four days so far and it looks pretty much the same. Aside from the first day it made my skin peel like it was sunburn. Now it just looks shiny and dry and has a reddish outline. Here's some pictures. Pictures are trimmed to only show the affected area so no worries.
This is what it looked like after applying just lotion for a whole week and right before I started using the antifungal cream

And here it is today about two hours after the lotrimin

Any ideas? It hasn't spread out any more than this for two weeks, however I still want to go to a dermatologist but no health insurance at the moment. Any insight? Thanks in advance
