Back of hands itch

I have what looks like 4 little cat scratches that have developed on the back of my right hand. It itches like crazy and I am having trouble clearing it up. It seemed to start after wearing a golf glove on my right hand. I stopped wearing it over a month ago but the itch continues. I don't know why there are 4 small scratch marks (like threads) on the back of my hand. I have tried putting a prescription cream on it to no avail. Benadryl cream seems to help the itch but the scratches do not go away. How can I clear this up?

Thank you for your interest and information. I started rubbing Benadryl on my hands about 3 days ago and it really helped the itching. I also started using and old remedy....Camphofenique. The scratches are now clearing up. Sometimes those old remedies just seem better than the newer ones. Thanks again for your help.

Hello,
Thanks for the additional information. It looks like allergic reaction. You should use mild soaps and apply some calamine. For the itching you can take some antihistaminic lie Benadryl or Claritin. If the symptoms are severe then you may need topical and oral steroids.

The itching started after using a golf glove. It itches right where the velcro attachment crosses the back of my hand. I have stopped using it now, but the itch is still there. I think the glove must have lycra in the material. I must have an allergic reaction to lycra. Thank you for your response. I appreciate your interest and willingness to help.

Hello,
These itchy marks can be due to contact dermatitis, hives or scabies. Scabies is a contagious skin infection caused by a parasite – the mite, which burrows under the host’s skin and causes intense allergic itching. It is transmitted from objects or beddings, but more with direct skin- to – skin contact. First the person becomes symptomatic only after four to six weeks of infection. You should get it evaluated from a dermatologist.
