ok, i have celiacs. about a month and ahalf ago i noticed small white bumps on my lower and upper lip. of course i assumed it was herpes at first but then i looked it up and everything pointed to fordyce(i have them on my genitals and i have never performed intercourse). i have also been getting white buildup where my Iips meet and under my foreskin. the goopy buildup causes a rash on the head of my penis. is this yeast? why isnt it going away? plz answer soon

For the Doctor:

What is the best treatment for fordyce on the upper lip (mouth)?  Is there a specialist other than a derm who would possibly be more familiar with this sort of condition?

I have been to a derm who indicated that it was in fact fordyce, however, they were not quick to prescribe anything.  I get that it's considered normal.  Perhaps this derm was not familiar with treating this condition.  It clearly seems like something that should be investigated further for a remedy.

Hi,

The lip lesions - like i mentioned in my previous posts -  could be fordyce spots, due to vitamin or mineral deficiencies, sun exposure, mucus secreting sebaceous glands - nothing can be said without a clinical examination. Also, pictures cannot replace an actual clinical examination.

Till then you could apply a lip balm with sun screen and take some multi vitamin medications and see if it helps.

Let us know about what your doctor advises and post us if you need any further information.

Regards.

Hi,
Fordyce spots are small (1-5mm), slightly elevated yellowish or white papules or spots that can appear on the lips and inside of the cheeks.  They may occur as a solitary lesion or more frequently in crops of about 50-100.

Fordyce spots are a variant of sebaceous glands (the glands that normally produce sebum and are usually found within hair follicles). Fordyce spots are sebaceous glands without hair follicles. They are present in 80-95% of adults.
Fordyce spots are generally harmless and do not require any treatment.

In your case,  it seems more like an allergic reaction or eczema, probably in response to the medications that you might have taken for the sinusitis.

You can take anti-histamines like Cetrizine or Loratidine for the rash and apply Calamine lotion on the bumps. It should subside in 7-10 days.

You need to wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites.

Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions and see if it helps. You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene .

Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin.

For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone or desonide), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide).

Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema. Keeping the affected area moistened can promote skin healing and relief of symptoms.

It would be advisable to consult a skin specialist for your symptoms and a proper clinical examination.

Let us know if you need any other information and post us on how you are doing.

Regards.
