My son has developed patches of velvety brown-black skin in his neck, (looks like a dirty neck), and underarms, i know is acanthosis because his cousin has the same condition. My son is severely autistic with many behavior issues and getting blood work impossible unless sedated. He is on the heavy side but not obese, is there anything that works with this condition, the patches are really ugly and they seem to be getting worse. Is this something that a dermatologist can treat, do we need to see an endocrinologist? is there any oral, topical medication for it? i have read general information about it and they suggest diet change, well... that is an impossible task with my son who has a very restricted diet (by choice) and would only eat few things and if not given to him he gets agressive and has terrible meltdowns. I am dealing with a very low functioning, severely autistic, big boy (15 y/o, 6'2", 240 lbs) Any input will be appreciated.
