Hair Bumped turned bald

I'm a 27 year old female who has had a nickle sized very hard bump on the top of my head for a couple years.  It never hurt.  However, I have noticed that I have similar bumps in several other parts of my head which are smaller in size, about a pencil eraser size.  I was determined to scrap it off one day because people were telling it was probably a pimple...which I knew it wasn't but I decided to scrap it off anyway and I dug at it for quite some times.  About a week later my head was so painful around the area that I couldn't even touch it to a pillow without it hurting.  I don't have insurance and am otherwise broke so I decided it was infected because I was dump and scrapped at it and made it bleed so I took some antibiotics I got in Mexico for a couple of days.  The pain diminished and so too did the hardness of the bump. I also thought because it might be infected to put some hydrocortizone cream on it.  I read the tubed 20 times to make sure there were no warnings about hair loss.  The bump later became soft to the touch and  wasn't as tall but still the same size otherwise and the pain went away.  About 2-3 weeks after this incident however, I noticed the entire area where the bump is is bald!!!!  I'm freaking out.  Because I have a lot of hair otherwise, no one can tell but me, but I still want my hair to grow back.  There seems to be some fluid inside the bump now when I touch it.  Just wondering what is wrong with me and if my hair will grow back and what to do!!

Thanks for your quick response.  I am studying for the bar and have it in a little over a week.  After that I will definitely make an appointment.  All of this is just adding to the stress and you at least provided me with a little relief.  I hope this goes away...the more I look at it the more noticable it is and I'm rather embarrassed.

Thanks...will keep you posted.

Hello,
The bump that has formed on the back of head due to continuous manipulation can be a picked hair follicle or a sebaceous cyst. Generally no treatment is required but they become painful then it means they are infected,Then surgical excision by traditional wide excision, minimal excision, and punch biopsy excision may be required.

Pls consult a dermatologist and get it examined. The hair will grow back provided there is no damage to the follicles.

I hope it helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
