Hives and how to fix them

I have a 2 year old daughter who is covered all over her body in hives. They appeared yesterday morning after she slept the hasn't been any significant change in her diet, aside from taking a medication to clear up her upper respirtory infection. Though 18-24 hours prior to her rash showing up she had covered herself inadvertantly in her feces during naptime. I bathed her and washed her bedding putting her in clean clothing. Is it possible that the rash/hives were caused by exposure to possible bacteria from the feces (she's been having loose bowels)? If so how would I go about clearing it up- I contacted her pediatrician and have been giving her Benadryl and when that didn't work I tried Zyrtec but its getting worse. HELP!!!!!! Thank you.

Thank you for your reply. She is going to her doctor today however I have some good news. Last night after her bath I applyed hydrocortisone ointment all over the affected areas and this morning where ever I put the cream it cleared up significantly- places I did not put it got worse- her face did not have any hives and this morning they do. So the good news is that the ointment is clearing it up the bad news is that I don't know if there is still a cause for them to keep appearing. I will repost with the doctor's reply this afternoon though I rather doubt it'll be much more helpful at this point.

Thanks again.

Hello,
Many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known. Others may be triggered by viral infections or medications. Continue giving antihistaminic like Benadryl or Claritin and apply some calamine lotion on the rashes. If the symptoms persist then topical or oral steroids may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case.

I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
