Leg discoloration

I had a skin discoloration in my left foot nearly 10 years back. There was a red patch that soon spread to other parts of my leg. There is no itching however.I was told that this is schaum's disease and it was caused by iron oozing from the blood vessels on to skin. Now I noticed that this patch is appearing on my right foot also.
Is there any traetment for this?

Hi

I understand your concern.

The cause of Schamberg's disease is yet unknown. This has been shown to be associated with an underlying viral infection or some hypersensitivity reaction as in the case of allergies. The rash is due to leaking of blood from tiny blood vessels on the surface of the skin. Topical corticosteroids may be the mainstay of therapy if the rash brings about some discomfort or itchiness. Vitamin C has also been used.

Recently, there are researches looking into UV therapy and pentoxifylline as effective therapeutic options for Schamberg's disease. You may ask your doctor about this.

Schamberg's disease is not contagious.
