Is it really a fungal skin infecton???

Before christmas I noticed this very pigmented mark on my back. It looked scaly and my doctor thought that it was probably a fungal infection of some kind so he gave me an anti- funal/ hydrocortisone for the itching. However a few weeks after I noticed what I thought were two little pink insect bites developing on my arm. They grew bigger, flatter, scaly and turned pigmented like the big spot on my back. Now a few months on and still using the medication he has given me the spots are all over my body except for my face. And the mark on  my back has stayed exactly the same. I'm very worried. They are also quite itchy.
I currently take antibiotics- tetracycline, for my acne so I don't know whether this may be the cause. My doctor is not sure of what it is and was reluctant to refer me to a dermatologist who I now have to wait months to see because of his diffultness and hesitation.

Hi,

You have mentioned of pigmented skin markings.

Are these lesions reddish, skin colored or violaceous in color?

Are they flat or elevated?

Are they shiny or are they plaque like?

Do you observe whitish lines or markings over the lesions?

How large are these skin markings?

Do they itch?

Is there involvement of other parts of the body such as the genitals?

Does lying on your back hurt the lesion ?

Do keep us posted for your answers. These questions are meant to clarify some points regarding your case.

I know this sounds horrible, but have you looked into scabies.  I know that the description you gave sounds fairly close and itching is one of the main symptoms (along with red rash (big or small spots).

See http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/scabies/DS00451/DSECTION=1

Also see http://www.dermatlas.com/derm/ for some decent pics of it.

Another great resource is www.merck.com.
