Neck 'rash'

I have a red patch of skin that appears on my neck from time to time.  It gets very hot and bright red and stays there for 1-3 hours and then returns to its natural pale color.  This usually happens a few times a week.  It doesn't seem to be affected by temperature and I haven't been able to correlate it to anything else.  The skin itself itchy and doesn't feel dry ... or anything besides really, really warm.

Have you heard of anything like this before?  Should I be worried?  Doctors seem to think I'm nuts with this 'disappearing' red patch.

Hi,

You would need to see a skin specialist to rule out eczema, sweat dermatitis, heat rash, acne, folliculitis, etc.

Let us know about how you are doing and post us about what your doctor advises.

Post us if you need any further information.

Regards.

Hi.

I'm sorry, I tried to clarify (poorly!) but the red spot does not itch and there is no negative sensation other than the warmth.  I wouldn't notice it at all except it makes me feel very warm and is warm to the touch.  And I didn't mention any migraine issues so I'm a little confused.

No, I am not currently taking daily medication though I do take Zyrtec as needed for seasonal allergies.  I also have a food allergy (tree nuts) but stay far away from them as not to have to use an epipen.  I've put hydrocortisone on it (as well as benadryl cream) in the past and it doesn't seem to affect the red patch.  I've probably really only noticed the red patch in the last year.  I also have always had really clear skin (no acne) ever and I'm 26 years old.  Often times I'll be reading in a chair or talking on the phone or whatever and will suddenly feel very warm, look in the mirror and see the patch.  I finally just took a picture of it.

PS.  I do use sunscreen religiously as I have a family history of malignant melanoma.

Hi,

Are you on any medications?

The neck rash could be due to several causes. You would need to see a skin specialist to rule out eczema, sweat dermatitis, heat rash, acne, folliculitis, etc.

You could take some oral antihistamine or antiallergic medications like loratadine or cetrizine and see if it helps with your symptoms. Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions to help soothe the itching.

What other symptoms are you having? Since when have you noticed the lesions?

Are you allergic to any specific substances? Have you consulted a doctor for your migraine symptoms?

You should use a medicated sunscreen whenever you go out and avoid sun exposure.

Let us know about how you are doing and post us about what your doctor advises.

Post us if you need any further information.

Regards.

This should say 'The skin itself ISN'T itchy and doesn't feel dry ... or anything besides really, really warm. '
