Help with severe itching

Well all this started about a month ago. I itch like crazy during the night, I dont itch all the much during the day time, but when I try and sleep is when I itch severely, I only itch on my stomach, sides, lower back, and majorly around the back of my thighs and legs. I've tried skin cream to help to no avail. I've washed all my clothes, sheets etc several times to no help either. All my habits have been the same as well no change in eating, or fabric softners or anything in that sort. I have noticed some small circle marks on my legs but I also have acne and in which I dont know if its that. The only conclusion I have left is bed bugs. As in mites usually (to what I've read) infect the hands and feet. I've had no itching there at all. So im all out of ideas, im losing a vast amount of sleep and vitality from this. Any help would be appreciated

The itchiness that occurs at night or bedtime makes me think of bedbugs.  You can carry one home from store unaware so don't think I am saying you are unclean.  Check your mattress well, I would don't at night with flashlite. Any hubby and I rented a cabin last year and must have brought some home, we would wake up itchy with bumps...

I was concerned at first that it might in fact be scabies...which freaked me out a bit I must admit.  The doctor's have assured me to no end that it is not.  I made another appointment today with the dermatologist to see if we can't start me on something else.  It's getting to be very stressful.

Hi Dakkon & mj310,

One differential which you should talk to your doctor about is Scabies. Its presentation is somewhat similar and therefore an analysis may be needed.

Meanwhile, you may take the symptomatic treatment I mentioned earlier.

Best regards

I have pretty much the same thing.  Although the itching is most intense at night, it doesn't seem to be keeping me from sleep.  I have been to two doctors and a dermotologist as I have had these spots for about three months now.  All have told me that it's a form of psoriasis developed from an untreated strept throat infection.  I have been on antibiotics and steroid creams and nothing helps.  They seemed to get smaller for about a week before they came back again with a vengeance.  My advice would be to go to a doctor about this and see if you can't figure out what it is.  And get plenty of sun...it seems to help quite a bit.

Hi,

What is your age? Since when are you having the symptoms?

The symptoms you mention could be due to some insect bite, allergic reaction, etc.

Nothing can be said with surety though. Are you allergic to any specific substances? Have you had allergic reactions in the past?

You could try some oral antihistamine or antiallergic medications like loratadine or cetrizine and see if it helps with your symptoms.

Has a liver function and kidney fnction test been done?

It would be best to consult a skin specialist if the lesions do not resolve.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Regards.
