Paronychia

Hi
Around one of my fingernails it is hot, red, sore and swollen.  My GP said I have a paronychia.  My finger has been sore now for 10+ weeks.  I have been on two weeks of antibiotics (Flucoxacillin), have applied magnesium sulphate and have now been given crystacide (anti-fungal) to try.
With the hydrogen peroxide my finger seems to have gotten worse.

Should I continue with the anti-fungal cream?  And what is likely to be the next step?  My GP said he would ultrasound it.  Is that feasible given there doesn't appear to be anything in it?  (The US is only funded if there is something in my finger.)

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
Paronychia results from a breakdown of the protective barrier between the nail and the nail fold.

Treatment includes warm water soaks of the affected finger 3-4 times per day, oral antibiotics, topical antifungals and surgical intervention in more severe cases. My sincere advice would be to consult a dermatologist. Since it has not responded well to antifungals, so surgical intervention may be needed.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

I've now got pins and needles in my sore finger and same hand.  This is a new development.  Not sure what this means.

I expect you're right and that my doctor may now opt to intervene.
I wouldn't consider it severe.  I'm just frustrated it's been going on so long.
Although it wasn't 100% I felt it had improved.  Since putting the anti-fungal cream on it it has become ***** again.
I have been iron deficient so expect that may be hindering my recovery somewhat.

I have a doctor's appointment in two days.  I'll let you know the outcome .

Thank you for your time and expertize.
