Prednisone for Fungal Infection

At the end of February I took a 10 day round of antibiotics to treat strep throat.  On the last day of treatment I discovered a largish discoloured, reddish spot on my shoulder.  I left it alone, within a couple of days, my one spot had went to a few spots.  I tried to get into my doctor and was unable to for one week.  Instead I went to a walk-in, they gave me ketocozonole 2% and a steroid 1%.  Two weeks later, the spots are starting to lose the redness, just look a little white and dry now.  However, the spots are slowly spreading downward.  So, I am getting rid of the ones on my shoulders and chest, but they are on my stomach, legs and groin.
Go to my doctor, he refills my cream prescription and prescribes me:
Prednisone,
30mg two days
25mg two days
20mg two days
15mg two days
10mg two days
EVERYTHING I have read about this indicates that taking prednisone while having a fungal infection of any sort is very bad.  Why would my doctor prescribe me prednisone?  I don't understand, is there some research that says that this is sometimes used as a treatment?  I am on day three of treatment.  I am scared, as this fungus has taken over my life for over a month.

Get a second opinion before taking anything else. In my experience steroids promoted the growth of Candida albicans (a yeast/fungus). Re fungal infections: stay away from sugars, starches, antibiotics and (at least in my case) prednisone and inhaled steroids.

Very true. Took me almost a year to find a doctor to undo a doctor's ill advice who gave me topical and oral steroids when all I had was a simple yeast infection. Just be warned.
